What editing does to a research document
It gets you past the avoidable objections. Reviewers have limited patience, and language problems use it up early, whereas a clean manuscript keeps the discussion on your method and your findings.
It applies your style guide properly. Whether it’s APA, OSCOLA, Chicago, Vancouver, or a journal’s own requirements, send the guidelines and we’ll work to them throughout, including the reference list.
It checks that your sources exist. As standard, we confirm that every reference is real and formatted consistently. If you’d also like us to confirm that each source supports the argument it’s cited for, that’s developmental work, and we’ll quote it separately.
It makes the structure carry the argument. We put the findings where a reader expects them and the method where it belongs, and make sure the discussion answers the question the introduction asked.
It reads for the non-specialist reviewer. Most panels include someone outside your subfield, so we flag where your argument assumes knowledge they won’t have.
Writing in English as an additional language
Much of the best research is written by people whose first language isn’t English, and it’s a large part of our work.
We edit for precision and idiom while leaving your argument and your voice intact. We won’t flatten your writing into something generic, and we won’t rewrite your claims to say something you didn’t mean.
Editing certificates
If your journal, institution, or funder wants proof that a professional editor worked on the manuscript, we’ll issue an editing certificate on request, at no extra charge.
Departments and research groups
If several people in your group send work in over the year, a prepaid credit account gives you one balance for the whole group and a monthly statement for your finance office.
What we can’t promise
No editor can promise acceptance, because reviewers and examiners judge the substance of your work. We can make sure the language doesn’t get in the way, and that the manuscript shows your thinking at its best.
